In early 2019, Google began testing options for the web version of Google Drive, which allows you to view all types of files offline, including PDFs, images, and Office Microsoft Office documents. This feature is currently out of beta.
Google has announced a general release of offline mode from Web Drive. With the new feature, you can view all kinds of files that everyone can access without an internet connection. Useful for people who frequently travel to areas where internet connectivity can be unstable. Previously, only Google files containing documents, spreadsheets and presentations could be accessed offline.
To select offline support for a specific file, simply right-click the item on the drive and toggle the Available Offline option in the menu. After that, you can open these files from the drive's web-based portal using any compatible application installed on your PC.
As part of this update, Chrome OS users will be able to select Docs, Spreadsheets, and Slides files for offline access in any of the best Chromebook Files apps. This means you don't need to open a drive or document for display to mark this file offline.
This feature is available to all Drive users with either personal or business accounts. However, installations in the office require the administrator to manually enable offline access to the domain. Google will start rolling out the new feature, which will be available to everyone by September 14th.
